Yi Kwangsu in theory and praxis: "What is literature" and "The Heartless"

Subject of this thesis is groundbreaking essay "What is literature?" written in 1916 by korean author Yi Kwangsu. In the essay he describes korean literature and how much it is influenced by Chinese culture tradition dominating in Korea. The author is in a strict opposition and rejects everything "old". He shows timeless thoughts and importance of culturul detachment from China thanks to which Korea will be able to flourish and develope in a positive way. Also emphasizes writer's experiences, earnest of literature a primaly emotions he consideres to be the most important for literature. To which point Yi Kwangsu managed to convert theory to practise will be examinated on his novel The Heartless (Mujŏng) he wrote not se later after mentioned essay.
